Let Us Help You Feel at Home!

Becoming Comfortable in the Gym Environment

Greetings, everyone!

Over the next several weeks, I’ll be making a series of posts about ways that personal training can help all people, regardless of their level of experience (or lack thereof).

For this first post in the series, I want to focus on one that is particularly important at the start of the calendar year, when many people are making their way into fitness facilities for the first time in a while (or, in some cases, ever): personal trainers can help you feel comfortable in the gym environment.

You Are Not Alone

This is something that I have experienced personally. I wasn’t always a trainer: in fact, for many years of my adulthood, I was downright sedentary. When I finally reached the point where I wanted to start moving and get healthier, I didn’t know where to start or what to do. I clearly remember how awkward and insecure I felt the first time I entered the gym and asked for help.

Some of you may feel that way now. Don’t worry: you’re not alone, and we’re glad you’re here!

A lot has happened since I decided to get active again—I’ve gone from being a sedentary and unhealthy individual to a record-holding athlete without a single significant injury, and the gym has become one of my favorite places to be.

How did I get from there to here? I can tell you: it was because of the patience and guidance of my trainers and coaches.

How We Can Help

Here are just a few of the things that trainers do to help gym “newbies”:

  • Teach you what all the equipment is and what it’s used for.
  • Instruct you regarding how to do different exercises safely and effectively.
  • Help prevent boredom by giving you varied workouts that are designed with your goals in mind.
  • Assess your current levels of cardiovascular endurance and strength so that you can accurately track your improvements. This can really help you stay motivated when the going gets tough!
  • Assess your movement patterns and mobility restrictions to ensure that you only do exercises that are safe for you.
  • Give you a reason to go to the gym on days when you might otherwise talk yourself out of it.
  • Be a source of supportive and encouraging company.

These are all things that my trainers did for me, and they are all things that I now do for my clients. All of the trainers at Leap Fitness are committed to creating a welcoming environment that helps people exceed their goals… and have fun along the way, too!

Some people will end up working with their trainer over a long-term period of time; other people just want a series of sessions to help them learn about good form and different exercises that they can do on their own. The important thing is getting accurate information and quality help right from the start: this will help you build a strong foundation for your future. After all, it’s easier to develop good habits from the beginning than to try to correct bad habits later!

What You Can Do
